Christmas Traditions

It’s that time of year! Christmas is almost here, and we’d like to share some Christmas essentials with you.

Christmas Dinner

The traditional Christmas dinner includes roast turkey with stuffing, cranberry sauce, and gravy, mashed or roast potatoes, roasted vegetables, which includes roast parsnips and carrots, Brussels sprouts with roast chestnuts, and Christmas pudding. Sometimes, instead of the turkey, a goose or duck is roasted.

Christmas Crackers

Christmas crackers are a Christmas favourite in the UK. They are usually placed near the plates on the dinner table. They look like oversized bonbons, but the filling is not chocolate. Inside the cracker, you can usually find a paper crown, a snap, some sort of small trinket, and a joke or riddle. Two people have to pull at the ends of a cracker. When that’s done, there’s a bang or snap. The person who pulled most of the cracker wins the contents. The crackers are also pulled for fun on other occasions, such as New Year’s or an anniversary.

Christmas Stockings

The stockings are usually hung over the fireplace. Santa Claus or Father Christmas fills it with gifts additional to the ones that are placed underneath the Christmas tree. In the morning of Christmas Day, kids rush to see what gifts they’ve received and are always excited to see the stockings full.

Unwrapping of Christmas Gifts

It usually happens in the morning on Christmas Day. After that, there is a celebratory breakfast and the party continues.

Family Traditions

Christmas is also a time for family traditions. Each family has its own traditions. For example, it could be going to church, watching classic Christmas movies like “It’s a Wonderful Life,” or visiting relatives.
