Overused Words

It’s true that some words in English are employed and repeated much too often. So, how can you enrich your speech and avoid repetition?

A solution to the problem is taking advantage of a good thesaurus to find more relevant and expressive substitutes for the overused word.

For example, the verb ‘get’ can be exchanged for receive, obtain, come by, acquire, undergo, procure, pick up, gain, win, achieve, take, learn, and so on, depending on the context.

Another example of an over-utilized word is ‘do, ’which can be switched to carry out, complete, conduct, perform, make, and so on.

Now, please think about your speech. Are there any English words that you use too many times?

Please feel free to share your examples or ask questions in the comments.
